Holiday Spotlight

FRIDAY, SEPT 29, 2023  - Michael and All Angels Day

The Feast of Michael and All Angels is also known as Michaelmas signifies the end of the harvest and the start of Autumn and shorter days. It is an annual feast and 'quarter day' in the Western Christian Church. There is many traditions such as not havesting brambles after September 29th which is believed to be the day Archangel Michael cast Lucifer from Heaven in retailation landing Lucifer in a bramble bush.

There was once a strange legal custom to steal your neighbors horse and return it by the next night which is no longer followed unless there is an understanding between neighbors! It is also customary to give a Daisy as is simple prettiness and delicate nature would protect against the advancing darkness.

On Michealmas it was important to feast on a goose which was fattened on the remains of the harvested fields to protect against financial hardships.
