Holiday Spotlight

Pentecost Sunday is the seventh Sunday after Easter. Pentecost comes from Greek word pentekoste which means fiftieth since Pentecost is 50 days after Easter. Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles and followers of Jesus celebrating the "Feast of Weeks" and is described in the scripture Acts 2: 1-31.

In Eastern Orthodox Christianity it is known as "White Sunday" or "Whitsunday" while the Monday after is a legal holiday in many European nations.
